WebSite X5 Evo and Pro

Images are among the most frequently-used elements in a Web Page. They help to put across an idea, to advertise a product, to give a certain message, or simply to make a page look more attractive. Whatever the reason, images are important because they help create the overall impression of a website and increase the perception that it is attractive, well-thought-out and professional.

In WebSite X5, you can use both bitmap images and vector images.

For bitmap images, all major formats are supported (.JPG, .GIF, .PNG, .PSD, .BMP, .TIF, .DIB, .PCX, .RLE, .TGA, .WMF), as well as .WebP and .HEIC, which utilize more advanced compression algorithms, offering better quality management and smaller file sizes.

For vector images, the supported format is .SVG.

#tip - Raster or bitmap images are images that consist of a "grid" of squares, namely the pixels, each one having its own position and color. Vector images are, on the other hand, sets of geometric primitives that define points, lines, curves and polygons which can be associated to colors and shades.

You can import your images by searching through the ones stored locally on PC or available online, or by using the rich libraries of Premium and Free Images the software includes. Once you've imported the desired file, you can use the useful Image Editor to put the final touches to your pictures: cropping, rotating, correcting, adding masks, filters and frames (see: How to edit an image).

You can also work on the Images to give them fantastic wide-angle and close-up views (see: How to create a wide-angle picture) or to create a button with a mouseover effect (see: How to create a button with a mouseover effect).

Of course, WebSite X5 offers you all the options to optimize your images for the Search Engines and to add them in the SiteMap.xml file (see: How to optimize images for Search Engines).

Additionally, you can accompany the images you insert with appropriate alternative text: this is not only a best practice for SEO optimization, but also a fundamental requirement for the accessibility of your pages (see: How to write alternative text for non-text content on Web Pages).

WebSite X5 is very aware of the problem of unauthorized copies of pictures from the Internet: a built-in protection system prevents website visitors from tracing the original file, and you can also apply watermarks and copyrights (see: How to protect pictures from unauthorized copying).
