Compatibility:
WebSite X5 Evo and Pro
There are many cases in which you will need to import a file while working on your website: you may need to add an image while preparing a template, or, when setting up your pages, you may have to add or connect images, video, audio or any other kind of files.
In WebSite X5, you will find the following buttons everywhere you can add a file:
use it to access the system File Selection window and select a locally stored file;
use it to access the WebSite X5 File Selection window and select a file from the integrated Online Libraries or from an online platform.
#tip - Accessibility. For images, videos, audio, and animations, next to the file import buttons, the buttonis also available. Through the opened window, you can decide whether to set the inserted element as 'decorative' or to provide an Alternative Text. For more information, see Image Accessibility: The Importance of Alternative Text.
The WebSite X5 File Selection window has different sections and the one displayed depends on the kind of file you need to import. The possible sections are:
The Images section
This section of the File Selection window appears when you need to import an image. It gives you access to a library with millions of Free and Premium Images, all high-quality and completely royalty-free, which can be used in your Projects.
Searching the image library is very easy thanks to the built-in search engine and the many filters available.
All selected images are downloaded and copied into the Project Library. For Premium Images – easily recognizable thanks to the icon – copies are downloaded as watermarked previews. If you decide to purchase a Premium Image when publishing your site online, the preview will be replaced with the original image.
#tip – To offer you Premium Images, we partnered with Depositphotos, one of the world’s most well-known stock image platforms. For more information, see: What are Premium Images and how to work with them? For Free Images, we partnered with Pixabay and with Pexels. For more information, see: Where can you find free images to use in your project?
The Free Videos section
If you are going to add a video, this section of the File Selection window will report an archive of free videos which you can freely access.
The videos are downloaded on your PC.
#tip - The archive of free videos is offered by Pixabay and Pexels too.
The YouTube/Vimeo section
If you need to add a video, on the File Selection window you will be able to directly paste the URL of the video on YouTube or Vimeo too.
In this case, the selected file will stay online: it won't be downloaded on your PC.
The File from URL section
Regardless the kind of resource, the File Selection window always offers you the possibility of importing an online file. Use the appropriate field to paste the file URL, which you can copy from your browser address bar. Click on to make sure the reported URL is correct.
By using this function, the selected file will stay online: it won't be downloaded on your PC.
#tip - All files you import are automatically saved in the project library. For more information, see: What are the Projects and how to manage them.
