One of the most popular methods of protecting Websites from fraudulent dealings or spam is using "Captcha".
Captcha is a test which determines if a user is human, and it is used to prevent bots from using services such as registration or comments forms to create spam or to violate the security of the websites.
In order to use Captcha on your web pages, you first need to choose the kind of Captcha to use:
- Open the Step 1 - Website Settings section and click on Privacy and Security button.
- Go to the Security section and select the Captcha type to use between:
- WebSite X5 Captcha: it is the default system. It displays some distorted letters on an unclear background: in order to proceed, the Visitors will need to correctly type the letters is the reported filed.
- Google reCaptcha v2: it's the second version of the Captcha system developed by Google. It simply asks the visitor to click to confirm that she/he is not a robot. If there is a security risk, the visitor will then be asked to solve a problem, such as rewriting a text or matching two pictures.
- Google reCaptcha v3: it's the third version of the Captcha system developed by Google. ReCaptcha v3 assigns the user a score based on his interactions and, if this score is high enough, allows him to continue without asking him to do anything. Only if the score is insufficient does it ask the user to click on the “I am not a robot” checkbox. Then, if the user fails this check, the system may ask him to solve a problem, such as rewriting distorted text or matching two images.
- If you choose Google reCaptcha v2 or v3, report in the given fields the Site and the Secret keys you get after having registered your website to this service.
#tip - Google reCaptcha. For more information about Google reCaptcha, about how to register your Websites and about how to get the necessary parameters to use the service, you can click on and access the official website: www.google.com/recaptcha.
Once you've chosen the Captcha system, you need to activate it for the Contacts Forms where you want to use it.
You can use it in the forms you set up with the Contact Form Object (see: How to activate CAPTCHA to protect email forms from spam?), as well as for those users need to fill out to send comments (see: How to enable / disable comments for blog posts) or register to the website (see: How to enable the automatic User registration).
