For your Blog readers, it can be helpful to know the estimated reading time of an article so they can decide whether to start reading right away or perhaps save it for a calmer moment.
The reading time of articles is automatically estimated by WebSite X5. Let’s see how you can adjust this estimate and how to choose whether or not to display this information for your readers.
Let's start by setting the reading speed:
- Go to Step 1 - Settings and open the Blog section.
- Open the Options section and set the Reading Speed to Low (about 100 words per minute), Medium (default speed; about 180 words per minute), or Fast (about 250 words per minute).
At this point, when writing an article, based on the set reading speed and the number of words entered, the program estimates the reading time. You can see the estimated value in read-only format in the Article Settings > General window.
The estimated reading time is rounded to multiples of 15 seconds and is never less than 1 minute.
If you want to share the reading time with your readers, you can display it among the details shown in the article cards:
- Go to Step 3 - Sitemap, select the special page 'Blog: Main Page,' and click the Edit button.
- In this window, you can generally modify the layout, composition, and graphic style of the cards. Use the dropdown menu in Card Style to select the Details element, and if necessary, click Show Reading Time to enable it.
Regardless of how it is set up for the cards, the reading time will always be shown below the article's title on the full article page.
