WebSite X5 Evo and Pro
When working on the Site Map, you will often need to rename pages, move levels, edit properties or quickly reorganize the menu structure.
To make these tasks faster and easier, WebSite X5 provides a range of commands, shortcuts and direct interactions that help you work more efficiently.
In this guide, you will learn how to:
- Quickly edit pages and levels
- Navigate the Site Map more efficiently
- Reorganize the website structure using drag & drop
- Copy pages, even between different projects
- Quickly add Special Pages to the navigation menu
1. Quickly edit pages and levels
Rename an item
To quickly rename a Level, a Page (including the Home Page) or a Separator, select it and click its name again.
Alternatively, you can use the Rename button.
Aliases of Special Pages placed in the Menu folder can also be renamed, while the names of the original Special Pages cannot be changed.
Edit a page title and description
After selecting a page, you can edit its Title or Description directly by clicking the corresponding text displayed in the Site Map.
This saves you from having to open the Page Properties window each time.
2. Move around the Site Map more quickly
Expand or collapse a Level
To quickly show or hide the pages contained in a Level, you can:
- double-click the Level;
- click the arrow next to its name.
Alternatively, you can use the Expand and Collapse buttons.
Open Page Creation directly
Double-clicking a Page opens the Page Creation window immediately, without the need to use any additional commands.
Access advanced functions for Special Pages
Double-clicking a Special Page opens the window used to create or update it, rather than the one for configuring its specific properties.
3. Quickly reorganize the website structure
Move a Level
To change the order of Levels, simply select one and drag it to the desired position.
All the Pages it contains will automatically move with it.
Alternatively, you can use the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
Move one or more Pages
You can drag one or more Pages to the desired position using drag & drop or the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
To select multiple pages at once, use:
- CTRL + click to select individual non-consecutive pages;
- SHIFT + click to select a continuous range of pages.
Multiple selection can also include Protected or Hidden pages.
#tip - Multiple selection is especially useful when you need to reorganize entire sections of your website without moving each page individually.
4. Copy and paste pages between projects
You can copy one or more Pages and paste them:
- within the same project;
- into another project opened in a different WebSite X5 window.
You can perform this operation using:
- the Toolbar buttons;
- the context menu opened with the right mouse button;
- the keyboard shortcuts CTRL + C and CTRL + V.
This feature is not available for Special Pages.
5. Quickly add Special Pages to the menu
If you drag a Special Page into the Menu folder, WebSite X5 automatically creates a navigation item linked to that page (or Alias).
This makes it easy to add direct links in the menu, for example to:
- the Login page;
- the Blog Home page;
- the e-commerce Shopping Cart;
- the internal Search Engine results page;
- the Welcome Page.
The created item can be renamed without changing the original Special Page.
